Parish Council News – September 2026

Parish Council News – September 2026

The Parish Council met on 14th September to discuss routine parish business, review our governance documents in relation to their correctness, accuracy and relevance to the work of a local council, and to discuss improvements to the playfield equipment as part of the playfield relocation. The Governance documents are available to view on the village website at https://edingtonwiltsparishcouncil.gov.uk/parish-council-regulations-codes-of-conduct/.

Casual Vacancy

There is still a casual vacancy on the Parish Council and we ask anyone who is interested in filling the vacancy to contact our Chair, Emily Greening, on 07910 228383, through the ‘contact us’ link, or via our email account contact@edingtonwiltsparishcouncil.gov.uk.

Neighbourhood Plan

The draft Neighbourhood Plan is still open for comments prior to a final redrafting and submission to Wiltshire Council for formal consultation. The revised plan can be found on the website here, as can a form for any comments you want to submit here. Please do take the opportunity to have your say about the plan and future development in the village.

Playfield

The playfield works have started and the formal transfers of land between the Parish Council and Three Daggers pub have been signed. As a result, the playfield and permissive path will be out of use for the next few months whilst play equipment is moved and refurbished.

Duration of the works and the length of closure of the playfield and permissive path are at present uncertain, and will no doubt depend on weather and other construction factors. It is expected to be a few weeks at least before the playfield equipment has been fully relocated, recommissioned and the facility can reopen. We will keep you updated as and when more information becomes available.

The Three Daggers Pub will be funding the move of existing play equipment and any damages that might result from doing so, whilst the Parish Council will be funding the installation of some new equipment and the repair of some other pieces that were broken before the move started. As part of this, the Parish Council would like to remember the donations from Margaret Barker (£5,000) and the May Ball (£2,000), without such generosity we would not be able to afford all of the works and new equipment.

Although we hope to eventually provide more equipment in future, this will rely on donations to assist in funding and so we are actively seeking donations from anyone, or any organisation, that would like to help us deliver a first class facility for our children.

As part of the land-swap deal, the Three Daggers will be building a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) on the new northern element of the playfield and this will provide a much needed facility for older children to use for ball games etc.

We apologise for the inconvenience in the loss of the playfield and permissive path during the new works but we’re excited to look forward to the new equipment and improved facilities that will be in place at the end. This work has been a long time in gestation but we’re delighted that it’s all underway at last.

Highway Matters / Footpaths / LHFIG

  • Lower Road/Monastery Road/Parish Hall Footpath – The work to resurface the paving slabs that lead onto Lower Road has been completed. The new High Friction Coating will hopefully make these previously slippery and sloping slabs much safer over the winter period.
  • B3098 Safety– The Parish Council approved the B3098 strategy note prepared over the summer and this will now be sent to Wiltshire Council for their consideration. The strategy document can be found on the website at the following link.

Policing

Repeated incidents of dangerous driving in the village (such as doing donuts around the Tinhead Road/Monastery Road junction) have been reported to the police. Please report any incidents to the police on 101 so that a log can be kept and action taken.

There have also been incidents of hare-coursing which have been reported to the police and action taken.

PCSO Alice Moore has been reallocated to another area and so we have a new PCSO for the village. Roland Revers has been at Westbury for a number of years and is very familiar with the area. We look forward to meeting him soon.
